Characterisation of Chrysoporthe cubensis and Chrysoporthe deuterocubensis, the Stem Canker Diseases of Eucalyptus spp. in a Forest Plantation in Malaysia

چکیده
Commercial plantations of Eucalyptus species have been established in Malaysia, especially during the past 10 years, with aim sustaining supply wood and timber products for industrial use Malaysia. As part an assessment fungal diseases affecting four regions including Kelantan, Pahang, Sabah, Selangor, stem canker disease was discovered to be a widespread infecting This study aimed identify fungus-causing disease, test its pathogenicity Eucalyptus, determine mating type isolates from infected trees. The fungi were identified based on morphology through comparisons DNA sequence data ITS, β-tubulin 2 gene, TEF-1α gene regions. Phylogenetic analyses showed that causal agent Chrysoporthe cubensis Pahang deuterocubensis Selangor. We believe this is first report cubensis-infected Malaysia Southeast Asia, while first-reported pellita Moreover, fact mating-type MAT1-1 MAT1-2 genes pheromone ppg1, ppg2, pre1, pre2 all indicates are homothallic systems. Pathogenicity tested 3-year-old standing tree, 1-year-old seedling, detached healthy leaves, which re-isolated fulfilling Koch’s postulates. In trials, both gave rise lesions wounded Eucalyptus. Both spp. equally pathogenic urograndis should regarded as biosecurity concern Malaysia’s forest plantation industry.

The pathogen Chrysoporthe cubensis (formerly Cryphonectria cubensis) is best known for the important canker disease that it causes on Eucalyptus species. This fungus is also a pathogen of Syzygium aromaticum (clove), which is native to Indonesia, and like Eucalyptus, is a member of Myrtaceae. Furthermore, C. cubensis has been found on Miconia spp. native to South America and residing in Melasto...

Chrysophorte cubensis induced canker occurs in nearly all tropical and subtropical regions where eucalypts are planted, causing losses in both wood quality and volume productivity, especially so in the warmer and more humid regions of Brazil. The wide inter and intra-specific genetic variability of resistance to canker among Eucalyptus species facilitates the selection of resistant plants. In t...

Chrysoporthe austroafricana (Cryphonectriaceae) is a damaging canker pathogen on Eucalyptus species in Southern Africa. Recent studies have shown that the fungus occurs on native Syzygium species and that it has apparently undergone a host range expansion from these native trees to infect non-native Eucalyptus. The aim of this study was to consider whether Chr. austroafricana and other Cryphone...
